Berberis aristata, also known as Indian barberry, is a shrub native to the Himalayas and commonly found in India, Nepal, and other parts of Southeast Asia, where it has a long-standing tradition in herbal medicine. Various parts of the plant—such as the roots, bark, leaves, and berries—are widely used to prepare herbal remedies and dietary supplements. Its popularity stems from a powerful compound it contains: berberine.
